Our 3rd/4th graders created 3 dimensional shapes with marsh marshmallow and toothpicks today!

3rd Grade
Do the shapes you created have parallel or perpendicular lines? Do they have both?

Students were able to reason about shapes and their attributes, understand that shapes in different categories may share attributes and that the shared attributes can define a larger category. They could recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.

4th Grade
They will be writing about what shape they created. What types of angles does the shape have? Right, Acute, or Obtuse... Are the lines parallel, perpendicular, or intersecting?

They were able to draw and identify lines and angles and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles.
They also classified two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Finally, they recognized right triangles as a category and identified right triangles as well. picpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpicpic
