I am pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Burroughs as School Counseling Director. Carol brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role, which plays a crucial part in our students' educational development and well-being.

Carol Burroughs' journey in education and counseling spans several decades, starting with her graduation from Lexington High School in 1970. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin and her Master of Science in Counseling and Personnel Services from Memphis State University. She furthered her education at Cumberland University and obtained her Master's +45 in Educational Leadership.

Before joining Lexington High School in 1993, Carol held various positions, including serving as an Administrative Assistant for the State of Tennessee Department of Conservation, Educational Director/Principal of a private school at the Northwest Counseling Center, a Masters Level Therapist at Carey Counseling Center, and adjunct faculty at Jackson State Community College.

Carol has been honored as the West Tennessee Counselor of the Year and Tennessee Secondary High School Counselor of the Year. She has been appointed to the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network and Tennessee ACT State Organization. She also served as a grant reviewer for the United States Department of Education, the SAMHSA organization, and 17 Departments of Education in other states since 2005.

Her professional achievements and personal life reflect Carol’s dedication to education and commitment to students' well-being. She is married to Jimmy Burroughs, who serves as a pastor at Crossroads Baptist Church in Parsons, Tennessee. They have one son, Dennis, who is married to Anita, and two cherished grandchildren, Cortney and Jonathan. Together, they enjoy spending time with family and exploring historical places.

Carol has passionately advocated for school counselors to have a voice at the leadership table represented by a School Counseling Director. The Henderson County School system looks forward to her valuable contributions to advancing the well-being and success of our students.
