Ms. Erin engaged 7th grade students in a real-world mathematics lesson comparing prices of everyday items from the 1970s to 2015. Students calculated the percent change, the increase or decrease in prices and used critical-thinking skills to explore possible reasons for these changes over time. The lesson encouraged mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and meaningful discussions about inflation, economic changes, and the factors that influence the cost of goods.
