Each week during football season, Lexington High School’s art students channel their creativity and teamwork into a colorful tradition — designing and painting the banner that leads the Tigers onto the field under the Friday night lights.

The project is a full-class collaboration that combines skill, planning, and school pride. “The students created this from beginning to end on their own,” said art teacher, Amber Douglas. “They’ve gained knowledge to understand the Design Process. They’ve also demonstrated an understanding of proportion and space to properly enlarge the concept.”

The process is as impressive as the final product. Art 3 students draw and color map the design, and then Art 1 students bring it to life with paint the next day. The teamwork allows every level of art student to contribute.

“All of my students have learned how to own their craftsmanship so that the banners look unified each week,” the teacher added. “It’s evidence of what I have seen them gain from the banners each week rather than what I desire for them to gain. It’s hard, hard work — and they did a great job this past week with little guidance from me.”

Through dedication and creativity, the LHS art classes not only decorate the sidelines but also display the pride, spirit, and talent of the Tigers community each Friday night.
