Members of the LHS Youth Health Council led students in conducting a Red Sand ceremony to recognize the growing problem of human/sex trafficking around the globe. Students filled sidewalk cracks with red sand to represent the victims who are "falling through the cracks" in our society. The project was done in coordination with the Henderson County Health Department. Sponsors for the club are Lisa Coffman and Amber Staten, public health educator.

We want to take a moment to brag on these nine students that passed the SDC American History test. Out of the entire state of Tennessee, only 72 students passed. LHS had nine students to pass so we feel like their teachers, Coach Bowman and Mrs. DeWald, deserve a shout-out as well! Congratulations to Kayla Brown, William Dawes, Niyah Hughes, Alonso Limon, Harold Rivera, Maddox Diffee, Taylor Franklin, Caleb Williams, and JP Shearer.

Ken Gluck from the Tennessee Holocaust Commission visited Coach Bowman’s World History class. Mr. Gluck told the class about his father, aunts, and uncle's story about surviving the Auschwitz Death Camp during the Holocaust. Mr Gluck stressed the importance of ending hate amongst all people groups so we can help prevent future genocides or acts of violence.

Schools in Henderson County will be open tomorrow. However, bus drivers will exercise discretion when navigating their routes based on road conditions. If your child’s bus is unable to reach your home, please contact the school in the morning, and your child’s absence will be excused. For parents who drive their children to school but feel the roads on their route remain unsafe for travel, please notify your child’s school in the morning, and their absence will also be excused. Henderson County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 13th, 2025, due to hazardous conditions on many backroads throughout the district’s bus routes. After careful evaluation of road conditions, district officials have determined that it is unsafe for school buses to operate on several rural and secondary roads. “The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority,” said Mr. Danny Beecham, Director of Henderson County Schools. “Although primary roads appear to be in good condition, many of our bus routes rely on backroads that remain challenging due to lingering snow and the threat of refreezing.” We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our families and staff as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
