Living this close to the Tennessee and Mississippi Rivers, flooding is one of the most common weather situations we have to be alert to. With all of the branches that come off of the two major rivers, any area in West Tennessee can quickly become a flood area. One of the most important things that is drilled into our heads: TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!
Facts and tips about floods:
Ninety percent of all natural disasters involve flooding.
Floods Are Now the #1 Natural Disaster on the Planet.
In 1927 the Mississippi's levees could not hold back the water from record precipitation and 27,000 square miles flooded over seven states resulting in a death toll of 246.
A car can be taken away in as little as 2 feet of water.
