We would like to congratulate the Westover 5th graders for successfully completing the 10-week D.A.R.E. program taught by Deputy Vineyard. Throughout the program, students learned about the dangers of drugs, how to handle peer pressure, the importance of self-confidence, ways to avoid situations that could lead to trouble, how to respond to bullying, and what it means to be a good citizen. Although the class concluded last fall, students were officially recognized with graduation today.
As part of the program, each student was asked to write an essay reflecting on what they learned in D.A.R.E. for the opportunity to win a stuffed Daren the Lion mascot. With many outstanding essays submitted, we are proud to congratulate Kylie Burton as the essay contest winner.
Kylie’s winning essay stood out for her thoughtful understanding of the valuable lessons taught throughout the program and her ability to reflect on how those lessons can positively impact her future. Her accomplishment is a wonderful example of the character, responsibility, and leadership encouraged through D.A.R.E. We are incredibly proud of Kylie and all of our Westover students for their hard work and dedication throughout this important program.
