As National School Counselor Week comes to a close, I want to publicly thank our school counselors across Henderson County Schools for the very important role they play in our students' lives. They serve as trusted listeners, advocates, academic and career guides, and steady sources of encouragement for children and families navigating real challenges.
Much of their work happens quietly and behind the scenes, yet its impact is profound and lasting. I love our counselors. I worked for over 20 years as a school counselor before becoming Director of Schools. I know firsthand their work matters.
On behalf of our Board of Education and our entire district, please know how deeply appreciated you are. Henderson County Schools is stronger because of your commitment to our students. Thank you for the difference you make every day.

Henderson County Schools Closure and Academic Calendar Update
Henderson County Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 5 due to current road conditions.
On Friday, February 6, faculty and staff will participate in staff development activities, only if they are able to safely travel to their school (with virtual options if not able to safely travel). There will be no students in attendance on Friday, February 6.
Schools will reopen on Monday, February 9, and we will return to a full week (Monday - Friday) of school for students beginning that day.
(Please note: this is a modification to the district academic calendar. The original calendar listed staff development and parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, February 12 and Friday, February 13. Those dates will now be regular instructional days for students.)
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we make adjustments to keep everyone safe while minimizing disruptions to learning. Please continue to watch for updates from the district.
Danny J Beecham
Director of Schools

RE: School Closure
Henderson County Schools will remain closed on Monday, February 2nd, and Tuesday, February 3rd. While conditions across the district are gradually improving, they have not yet reached a level that allows the safe resumption of normal school operations. In addition, our area will be under a Severe Weather Advisory this weekend due to dangerously cold wind chills, which are expected to refreeze roadways and walking surfaces.
We encourage all families and staff to continue exercising caution, limit travel when possible, and remain mindful of hazardous conditions that may persist. District personnel will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions and will evaluate our readiness to reopen schools as soon as it is safe to do so.
We truly miss having our students in our classrooms and cannot wait to welcome them back. As always, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support.
Danny J Beecham

Lexington, TN — January 25–31, 2026, has been designated School Board Appreciation Week in Tennessee.
Henderson County Schools is proud to join school districts across the state in recognizing and celebrating the Henderson County Board of Education for its dedicated service to our students, families, and community.
This year’s theme, “Local Leadership, Lasting Impact,” reflects the vital role school board members play in shaping the future of public education. Members of the Henderson County Board of Education champion student success, advocate for strong schools, and govern with the needs of the community at heart. As elected leaders, they serve as the local voice for public education and help guide the long-term vision and direction of Henderson County Schools.
“It takes strong leadership to build strong schools and a strong community,” said Superintendent Danny J. Beecham. “Our board members devote countless hours to ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn and succeed. Supporting student achievement is at the core of every decision they make.”
To fulfill this mission, the Henderson County Board of Education focuses on key priorities, including:
Establishing a clear vision with student achievement as the top priority;
Setting strategic direction to help all students reach their highest potential;
Monitoring progress to ensure district goals are met;
Fostering safe, healthy, and positive learning environments;
Building partnerships throughout the community to address shared challenges; and
Committing to continuous improvement that strengthens student outcomes.
“While we make a special effort to recognize our board members during School Board Appreciation Week, their dedication and service extend throughout the entire year,” Beecham added.

The Henderson County Board of Education hosted a Legislative Information Meeting this morning at the Board of Education office, welcoming State Representative Brock Martin, State Representative Kirk Haston, and State Senator Ed Jackson for an open and informative discussion.
The meeting provided an opportunity for board members, district leadership, and community members to hear directly from state legislators about current legislative topics impacting public education. Participants also shared local perspectives and priorities, reinforcing the importance of open communication between state leadership and local school systems.
Open dialogue such as this plays a critical role in strengthening partnerships and fostering collaboration, all with the shared goal of supporting student success across Henderson County Schools.
The meeting was open to the public and served strictly as an informational session. No action was taken by the Board of Education.
The Henderson County Board of Education extends its appreciation to Representatives Martin and Haston and Senator Jackson for taking the time to engage with the district and community. The Board also thanks Mr. Tate, the Board’s Legislative Liaison, for facilitating the discussion, as well as all community members who attended and continue to stay informed and involved in public education.

We will continue to monitor weather updates closely and will communicate any additional information as it becomes available. Please take appropriate precautions during this time, and we encourage everyone to stay safe and stay warm.
