Why School Attendance Matters
Showing up each day makes a difference! Regular school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success, both in the classroom and later in life. When students attend school consistently, they build strong learning habits, develop critical social skills, and stay on track academically.
Missing just a few days here and there can quickly add up. Research shows that students who are chronically absent—missing 10% or more of the school year—are more likely to fall behind in reading and math, struggle to stay engaged, and face greater challenges graduating on time.
Good attendance also prepares students for the future. Being present and on time teaches responsibility, commitment, and time management—skills that post-secondary schools and employers value highly.
Parents and guardians play a critical role in supporting attendance. Encouraging routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours, and communicating with teachers when challenges arise can all help keep students in class and learning.
At Henderson County Schools, we are committed to helping every student thrive. By making school attendance a top priority, families and schools can work together to give our children the best chance at success—today and in the future.

📸 8th Grade Tux & Drape Pictures 📸 It’s time to capture a memorable moment for our 8th graders! 📅 Date: Thursday, August 7th 🕒 Time: During school hours Students will be photographed in formal tux and drape attire provided by the photographer. Please make sure your child is dressed in a plain shirt (boys: white T-shirt; girls: tank top) under their school clothes to make changing easy.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Back-to-School Open House! 💛 It was wonderful seeing so many smiling faces, meeting teachers, and getting ready for an incredible school year.
A special shout-out to Craven Sweets Ice Cream Truck for making the night extra sweet, The Little Shed for providing awesome shirts for our event, and Bargerton Church of Christ for the sweet treats, free school supplies, and fun face painting.

All children who will be four (4) years old on or before August 15, 2025, are eligible to apply for PreK for the 2025-2026 school year.
Requested documents for enrollment:
-Proof of Income (ex: check stub, income tax return, public assistance case, etc.)
-Proof of age such as birth certificate, other medical documents
-Social Security Card
-Proof of Immunizations on a Tennessee Certificate of Immunization form from the Health Department or a Physician’s office
-Copy of Physical Examination (within 1 calendar year)
-Two (2) Proofs of County Residence (E911 address) (ex: electric bill, water bill, etc.)

Voluntary PreK (VPK) is an income-based program and priority will be given to those families that qualify. Completing the Henderson County PreK application packet does not guarantee enrollment in the PreK program. Non-income eligible students are placed on a waiting list once all paperwork is complete. Per the VPK grant guidelines, non-income eligible students will be notified mid-September informing them of their waitlist status.
