The 6th Grade had a Zoom meeting with meteorologist Moe Shamell on Friday 2/16/24. He went over our entire weather unit explaining tools, radars, satellites, hot and cold air masses, & types of fronts with our 6th-grade students. He also spoke on how the weather is predicted and extreme storms like tornados & ice storms. He then finished with the education required to be a meteorologist.

On Friday, February 16, 2024, 7th graders at BGS did an inquiry lab to make their own DNA helix out of marshmallows, twizzlers, and toothpicks. This is part of the Life Science strand for 7th grade heredity standards which is a favorite for all students!

First grade and Kindergarten had a special visit from Miss Shelby County Volunteer, Jewel Bodkins. She spoke to the students about kindness and each student made a special Valentine for a friend or loved one as a way to show kindness. Students practiced identifying kind and unkind behaviors and helped brainstorm ways they could show kindness every day.

Celebrating Shelly Russell at Bargerton Elementary School ~ I am Shelly Russell. I am a graduate of Lexington High School and the University of Memphis. I taught English Language Arts in 7th and 8th grade for twelve years before moving into the counselor's office this year. I have been blessed beyond measure to be back at my alma mater, Bargerton. My parents are Tyrone and Sue Smith. I have one son Hunter, daughter-in-law Brihanna, and two grandsons Royce and Noble, along with 6 bonus grandkids thanks to Rodney Reynolds. My favorite thing to do is to travel, and my favorite place is the beach. I love coffee, cats, and chocolate. A little known fact about me, I was once bitten by one of Earnest Hemmingway's six-toed cats.

Bargerton Beta Club is excited to announce they will host a penny war this year to help raise money for their end-of-the-year trip. Each grade will have a milk jug outside the office to drop their pennies in. Classes will be able to sabotage each other by dropping silver coins in other class jugs. The class with the most pennies will receive an ice cream party.
