The Renaissance team hosted Freshmen Commitment Day on Wednesday, September 6th at Lexington High School. This is a day that freshmen congregate in the auditorium to learn the importance of graduation for their future and commit to graduating with their class. Freshmen students signed a pair of TOMS shoes, which symbolizes their commitment in walking across the graduation stage with their class. These shoes will hang in the lobby by the auditorium for the next four years as a reminder of their responsibility to themselves, their peers, and Lexington High School.

Lexington High School is proud to announce our new club: The Electric Tigers. The purpose of this group is to fulfill requirements for the School Uplift Grant sponsored by TRC and TVA. This will include engaging students and teachers in energy saving measures around the school and working on changing behaviors that will allow the school to save money on energy bills. Students on the energy team will analyze and enter LHS energy data to track progress throughout the program. Students will also be working to create contests and incentives for participation in the program. The program ends in April, where our progress will be analyzed by an independent team to determine if we will receive the “big money” from the program. Mrs. Lauren Marchbanks is leading the team and working with Lexington Electric and TRC as they move through this process and meet goals set by the program coordinator. The group already has several activities planned. Marchbanks stated, “Currently, we are working on a t-shirt contest for the students, as well as setting up an incentive program for teachers, where students will go around in the afternoons with an energy saving checklist that will enter teachers in a drawing for a prize.” This is in hopes to get the entire school involved in saving energy.
