Westover is beyond pleased to announce the newest addition to our Bear Family! Please join us in welcoming Coach Keith Runyon! He will be teaching 6&7 grades SS, coaching our girls Lady Bears basketball, and assisting Coach Mark Malone with our boys basketball program.
Keith is a native of Eastern Kentucky and grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in the small rural community of John’s Creek. After graduating high school, he attended college at University of Virginia at Wise on a basketball scholarship. In 1986 Keith joined the United States Navy and become a ship’s navigator. He spent 21 years active duty and retired in January 2007 serving in The Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and multiple other campaigns. His medals and awards include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Eight Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Master Training Specialist, and various other awards.
Since his retirement from the Navy, Keith has spent time in finance, education, coaching basketball, and ministry. Keith spent 7 years coaching basketball at Lexington High School and 3 years coaching at South Gibson County High School where he led the Hornets to a District Championship, Region Runner-Up and Sectionals appearance while being named District 12AAA Coach of the Year. Keith is a veteran in the classroom and will be starting his 12th year of teaching in the public school system after earning a Master Training Specialist designation while serving in Navy. Additionally, he continues to serve in the ministry of the local church at Chapel Hill Baptist Church where his wife Lori of 28 years serves as the children’s minister. Together, Keith and Lori have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
Welcome back to the district, Coach-- and welcome HOME! Let's Go Bears! 🩵💛🐻

On Monday, we took a great group of readers on a trip to Books A Million to spend their hard earned reward for getting into Westover's Million Word Club. Students enjoyed reading and looking at books, and purchasing a few to take home with them. They also enjoyed lunch provided by Zaxby's and time to play and relax at the park. This is always a great trip and an excellent reward for meeting their reading goals. Thanks to the parents who tagged along and to Zaxby's for providing our lunch.
Members of the Million Word Club include: Wylie Evans, Emma Perkins, Dixie Blackwell, Sazsori Molina, Emma Usery, Madeline Flanagan, Jett Hansen, Austin Stone, Khara Arnold, Tiarra Raymer, Izzy Taylor, Matsuri Molina, Paisley Yates, Olivia Immormino, Kinzlee Phillips, Mayla Tims, Mia Blackburn, Emily Meng, Breeanah Andrews, Steevie Yandell, Madelyn Matheny, Alexander Wade, Grayson Flanagan, Brennan Wallace, Ethan Crocker, and Cody Wells.
