An inservice to remember! Today over six hundred employees of the Henderson County School District met to celebrate and to prepare for the new school year. The auditorium was packed and the tone uplifting. Director Beecham encouraged all employees to ‘inspire our students to dream, equip them to believe, and prepare them to achieve!’

TODD SELECTED AS GIRLS STATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE:
Lexington High School junior Sadie Todd, daughter of Raleigh and Julie Todd, was elected to one of the highest and most prestigious positions at this year’s Volunteer Girls State, a program of the American Legion Auxiliary. This nonpartisan program has been offered annually, since 1947, to Tennessee’s rising high school seniors and is centered on citizenship, teamwork, and fostering a love of God and country. ALA Volunteer Girls State provides young women in Tennessee the opportunity to learn about state government and how they can positively affect their communities at home through active citizenship and informed voting. Much of the week is spent learning by creating a mock government. All citizens of the state of Volunteer are divided into two political parties, 14 cities, seven counties, and seven legislative districts. From the first day of ALA VGS and throughout the week, citizens develop city, county, and state mock governments and have the opportunity to run for or be appointed to offices in all of these levels. As a possible candidate, you will petition, give speeches, address true-to-life issues and interact with your constituents. Sadie Todd was elected to the supreme court, one of the two highest positions at Volunteer Girl’s State!
When Sadie was asked about her experience, she gave this heartfelt response, “Girls State was definitely an eye-opening experience for me. I was amazed at how much time I “waste” each day because the days there are crammed full. I found that I can step out of my comfort zone and achieve much more than I imagined. I learned that you can find “your people” anywhere! Going into Girls’ State, I figured I would just be a spectator on the sidelines, but I changed my mind and decided to give it 100 percent. The citizens of my town elected me as their City Judge, and I swore in the city officials. I was then promoted to appellate court judge where we decided on different court cases. Then I had to write a letter explaining why I would be a good Supreme Court Justice nominee and write a speech to give in front of 600 girls if I was even chosen as one of the nine nominees. I am not comfortable with public speaking but did it anyway. What you put into Girls’ State directly relates to what you get from it. I was selected by all the citizens as one of the 5 Supreme Court Justices and enjoyed the cases we ruled on. I learned so much about government, but I learned even more about myself this week.”
The mission statement of the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) states: “For God and Country we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor our youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace, and security.”

Congratulations to Lexington High School's Zoey Johnson on winning a National Championship in Two-Dimensional Design!
We still have openings available in the Henderson County Pre-K program at Bargerton, Beaver, Pin Oak, Scotts Hill Elementary, South Haven, Southside, and Westover. All children who will be four (4) years old on or before August 15, 2023 are eligible to register for Pre-K for the 2023-2024 school year.
Requested documents to bring:
-Proof of Income (ex: check stub, income tax return, public assistance case, etc.)
-Proof of age such as birth certificate, other medical documents
-Social Security Card
-Proof of Immunizations on a Tennessee Certificate of Immunization form from the Health Department or a Physician’s office
-Copy of Physical Examination (within 1 calendar year)
-Two (2) Proofs of County Residence (E911 address) (ex: electric bill, water bill, etc.)
***Please bring requested documentation to the Henderson County Board of Education, located at 35 E. Wilson Street in Lexington, and complete a PreK application packet.

Voluntary PreK (VPK) is an income-based program and first priority will go to those families that qualify. Completing the Henderson County PreK application packet does not necessarily guarantee enrollment in the PreK program. Non-income eligible students will NOT be notified until after school has started. Non-income eligible students are placed on a waiting list once all paperwork is complete. Once all qualifying students are placed, non-income eligible students will receive notice informing them of their status after the beginning of school, per the VPK grant guidelines.
Today we want to recognize our school support staff personnel who have retired from the Henderson County School District this year. School support staff are integral to our student’s education and each school’s academic improvement. Paraprofessionals, bus drivers, school nurses, custodians, and secretaries are vital in creating a school culture that helps students reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. School support personnel make a difference and play an essential role in ensuring students learn in a safe and supportive learning environment. Thank you to each support staff member in our school district for all you do! Congratulations and well wishes to those who are retiring!
Guess what Henderson County Students?? While you are enjoying summer break, your poor principal is still in school!! But, after classroom time yesterday morning, they all got to go have a little fun together! They look forward to seeing you in August. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Janet Hays for organizing the day!

CONGRATULATIONS LADY TIGERS - CLASS 3A RUNNER-UP:
The Lexington Lady Tigers finished the 2023 season in a familiar place… the Class 3A State Championship Game. The Lady Tigers have had the privilege of playing in the state championship game six times in the past ten years, including three years in a row. As always, the Lady Tigers made things interesting by winning the quarterfinal game against East Hamilton on a walk-off stolen base and winning the state semi-final on a grand slam in the 7th inning against Gibbs. In true Tiger fashion, they won the first championship game against McNairy Central before the breaks just didn’t go their way in the “if-necessary” game. After a 6-10 start to the season, the Lady Tigers went on a tear down the stretch going 24-5 to finish as the TSSAA class 3A runners-up! Congratulations to the Lady Tigers and coaches!
CONGRATULATIONS LADY LION SOFTBALL:
The Lady Lions finished their season in the top six in 2A softball in Murfreesboro this past week. The Lady Lions played Waverly the first day in a close contest that went into extra innings but ended up falling to Waverly 5-4. The Lady Lions bounced back in the second game of the tournament on Wednesday knocking out defending state champions, Alcoa, by a score of 5-2. This win pitted district rivals Riverside at 4:00 on Wednesday. The Lady Lions battled hard but ultimately lost 8-5 and were eliminated. The Lady Lions finished off an amazing season, finishing at 22-12. Congratulations to the Lady Lions and coaches for their 3rd state tournament appearance in 7 seasons.
