Henderson County Youth Leadership participants had another great day visiting with local business owners and industry leaders. We started our day at Paisley Peacock in their new event room with a panel of business owners that included Monica Sowell with Paisley Peacock, Zach Parker with BE Scott BBQ, Kim Gill with HTeaO, and Tasha Johnson with State Farm. They spoke with student leaders about advantages and challenges of business ownership and the passion they have for what they do.
Then, we were able to tour two new businesses in town, Time to Game and HTeaO. Students really enjoyed not only getting to speak with these business owners at their location, but also playing games and sampling products.
After lunch, we toured Arch Medical where students got to see skilled workers create surgical tools and implants used all across the country.
We ended our day with a visit to Wabtec Young Touchstone, who not only is a leading manufacturer of radiators but also the sponsor for our program. We are so thankful for them believing in our program so that we are able to provide this opportunity to these Henderson County students.

Lexington High School Students Receives Air Force Junior ROTC Flight
Academy Scholarships
Maxwell AFB, AL (Dec. 04, 2024) – Micah Roach and Mason Taylor, Air Force Junior ROTC
cadets at Lexington High School, have received scholarships to attend an accredited aviation university participating in a private pilot license training program in the summer of 2025.
Cadets Micah Roach and Mason Taylor are two of 194 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets around the world to receive the scholarship from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL. 1,203 cadets applied for the scholarship opportunity. There are more than 85,000 high school students enrolled in Air Force Junior ROTC at more than 830 high schools in the U.S and overseas. The scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics and flight hours required to potentially earn a private pilot license. The scholarship is valued at approximately $27,000. Cadets Roach and Taylor are 2 of 6 cadets selected from all Tennessee applicants.
Cadet Aaron Mayo, a junior Air Force Junior ROTC cadet at Lexington High School is one of 136 cadets around the world to receive an alternate slot. Cadet Mayo will receive the same opportunity if he is activated upon a training slot becoming available.
The Flight Academy Scholarship Program is an Air Force-level initiative in collaboration with the commercial aviation industry to address the national civilian and military pilot shortage. The Flight Academy allows aspiring young aviators to get their Private Pilot’s Certification, at no cost, during an eight-week summer course at partner universities. This incurs no military commitment while providing a college transcript. Those who participate in the program do not incur a military commitment to the Air Force or other branch of service, nor does completing the program guarantee acceptance into one of the military’s commissioning programs.
The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is developing citizens of character.
