Henderson County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 13th, 2025, due to hazardous conditions on many backroads throughout the district’s bus routes. After careful evaluation of road conditions, district officials have determined that it is unsafe for school buses to operate on several rural and secondary roads.
“The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority,” said Mr. Danny Beecham, Director of Henderson County Schools. “Although primary roads appear to be in good condition, many of our bus routes rely on backroads that remain challenging due to lingering snow and the threat of refreezing.”
We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our families and staff as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.

Today, on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we want to give a huge shoutout to our incredible School Resource Officer, Brian Vineyard! 🚔🎉 Officer Vineyard goes above and beyond every day to ensure our school is a safe, welcoming place for students, staff, and families.
From keeping us secure to building meaningful relationships with our students, Officer Vineyard is truly a role model and a valued member of our school community. 💙
Thank you, Officer Vineyard, for your dedication, hard work, and positive impact on everyone here. We appreciate you! 🙌

Please be advised that Henderson County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 10th. However, today, January 9th, we are open as scheduled and all after-school activities will take place as previously planned. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Stay safe!

Yesterday was the DARE Graduation for our 5th class. The class was put on by our School Resource Officer Deputy Brian Vineyard. It was a 10 week program that met once a week. This is the 2nd year for the DARE program at Westover. It teachers the kids about consequences of their choices, bullying, effective listening, how to handle situation you don't want to be in, and being confident. At the end of the program, they are asked to write a DARE essay. This years winner of the essay contest was Zavion Pearson.

Our Westover Singers had an amazing day today caroling and spreading some holiday cheer!! Thank you to Briarwood Community Living Center, Henderson County Board of Education and Lexington Rotary Club for having us!

We also participated in a virtual field trip studying the science behind car crashes to discover how physics, engineering & technology is applied to real life scenarios to advance safety standards in vehicles. This spring, students will complete & possibly compete in Crash Science in the Classroom program where students apply their new knowledge to design a project to protect the occupants in a simulated car crash.

The SIM-V has brought to life the science and studies behind all the natural resources used as renewable and non-renewable energy. Students got to experience and touch a real coal miner’s hat/gear worn and involved in the Sago, West Virginia Coal mine disaster in 2006. ( Donated to Mrs. Karissa to teach coal mining history to students in Henderson Co.) Students witnessed pumpkins exploding by the chemical reaction: calcium carbide (CaC2) reacts with water (H2O), and it produces acetylene gas (C2H2) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). This reaction is represented by the chemical equation: CaC2 + 2H2O → C2H2 + Ca(OH)2, plus students are in the design/construction process of creating custom Christmas Villages using recycled milk boxes and powered by solar energy to welcome Silicon Ranch moving into Henderson Co and the possible careers associated with the company developing within our county.
