Valentines are allowed this Friday! ❤️

However, please note that glass vases are not allowed at school or on the bus, and balloons will not be allowed on the bus.

All glass vases will be turned away at the door, as they have broken in the past, creating a mess and an unsafe situation for students and staff.

Please also be mindful of the amount and size of gifts, as students will need to transport them to their dismissal areas.

Lastly, Westover is a peanut-free school, so please keep that in mind when choosing candy or treats.

Henderson County Schools Closure and Academic Calendar Update

Henderson County Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 5 due to current road conditions.

On Friday, February 6, faculty and staff will participate in staff development activities, only if they are able to safely travel to their school (with virtual options if not able to safely travel). There will be no students in attendance on Friday, February 6.

Schools will reopen on Monday, February 9, and we will return to a full week (Monday - Friday) of school for students beginning that day.

(Please note: this is a modification to the district academic calendar. The original calendar listed staff development and parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, February 12 and Friday, February 13. Those dates will now be regular instructional days for students.)

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we make adjustments to keep everyone safe while minimizing disruptions to learning. Please continue to watch for updates from the district.

From: Director of Schools Subject: School Closure Wednesday, February 4, 2026 Henderson County Schools will not be in session tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4th. While we are hopeful that weather and road conditions will continue to improve throughout the day, there remains too much uncertainty at this time to safely resume normal school operations. Several roads and streets across the district remain hazardous, and we are unable to ensure safe operation of our bus routes or a consistent start to the school day. The decision to close school is not made lightly. Student and staff safety remains our highest priority, and given the current conditions, proceeding with a regular school day would involve unnecessary risk. We will continue to closely monitor conditions and work with local officials as we plan for a safe return. We sincerely miss having our students in our buildings and classrooms, and we look forward to welcoming them back as soon as it is safe to do so. This week, we are celebrating an incredible team who supports the hearts, minds, and futures of our Bear family every single day.
We are so thankful for our school counselors Mrs. Haley Noles and Mrs. Tolena Hart, our school-wide behavioral health specialist Ms. Gabby Maxwell, and our career counselor Mrs. Jessica Wallace. Together, they go above and beyond to support our students and staff—whether it’s helping students navigate challenges, plan for the future, or simply being a trusted, caring presence when it’s needed most.
Their dedication, compassion, and commitment do not go unnoticed. Westover is a better place because of the work they do each and every day. 💙

As January and school board appreciation month draw to a close, we proudly honor Mr. Steve Crownover for 8 years of dedicated service as a school board member and a lifetime of commitment to Westover.

From being one of the very first students to attend Westover to later serving on the school board—and now watching his grandchildren walk our halls—Mr. Crownover’s story is truly a Westover legacy.

His leadership, heart for education, and deep roots in our community have made a lasting impact on our school and school system. We are so grateful for his service, dedication, and unwavering support of students, staff, and families.

RE: School Closure

Henderson County Schools will remain closed on Monday, February 2nd, and Tuesday, February 3rd. While conditions across the district are gradually improving, they have not yet reached a level that allows the safe resumption of normal school operations. In addition, our area will be under a Severe Weather Advisory this weekend due to dangerously cold wind chills, which are expected to refreeze roadways and walking surfaces.

We encourage all families and staff to continue exercising caution, limit travel when possible, and remain mindful of hazardous conditions that may persist. District personnel will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions and will evaluate our readiness to reopen schools as soon as it is safe to do so.

We truly miss having our students in our classrooms and cannot wait to welcome them back. As always, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support.

8th graders planning to attend LHS: Starting Tuesday and Thursdays of next week, weather permitting, current 8th graders who are going to be enrolling as 9th graders will have football workouts from 3:45-4:45. LHS football weight room.

Weather Communication from HCS: Henderson County Schools will be closed this week, Monday, January 26, through Friday, January 30. Our county and the state are presently under a State of Emergency proclamation due to the winter storm we experienced and its ongoing aftermath. Hazardous travel conditions and continued safety concerns exist across our district, making this closure necessary to protect students, staff, and families. We encourage everyone to take appropriate precautions during this time, limit travel when possible, and remain mindful of hazardous weather conditions. During this challenging time, we ask our school community to keep one another in their thoughts and prayers. As always, our priority is the safety and well-being of those we serve, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Henderson County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, and Tuesday, January 27th due to an anticipated winter storm forecast by the National Weather Service and extreme cold through Tuesday morning. Based on current information, weather conditions are expected to create potentially hazardous travel and safety concerns across our district.
