Henderson County Youth Leadership Students Visit State Capitol Students from the Henderson County Youth Leadership program representing both Lexington High School (LHS) and Scotts Hill High School (SHHS) traveled to the Tennessee State Capitol today for a hands-on learning experience in state government. During their visit, students had the opportunity to meet with State Representatives Brock Martin and Kirk Haston, as well as Senator Ed Jackson, Secretary of State Tre Hargett, Comptroller Jason Mumpowers, and Deputy Commissioner of Ag Bryan King. They spoke with the group about their roles in government and answered questions about the legislative process. Students also observed real legislative activity by sitting in on subcommittee meetings held in the Cordell Hull Building. The experience allowed them to see firsthand how bills are discussed and reviewed before moving forward in the legislative process. Then, students participated in a mock legislative session inside the Capitol’s House chamber. During the session, they practiced debating issues and voting on legislation, giving them a realistic look at how lawmakers conduct official business. The trip provided Henderson County Youth Leadership students with a valuable opportunity to learn more about state government and civic engagement while experiencing the legislative process in action.

Lexington High and Scotts Hill High Bands Hold Joint Concert Festival Preview

The Lexington High School and Scotts Hill High School bands recently held their annual Concert Festival Preview Concert on Thursday, March 5, in the LHS Auditorium.

Each year, the two high school bands come together to perform the musical selections they will present at the WTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment. The concert also features a special performance where both bands combine to form one large ensemble. The location of the preview concert rotates each year between the two schools, with Lexington High hosting this year’s event.

The preview concert provides students the opportunity to perform in front of an audience before their official assessment and highlights the unity and shared commitment to instrumental music education across Henderson County.

The Lexington High School Band is directed by Adam Wood, who also serves as the Henderson County Fine Arts Director, and the Scotts Hill High School Band is directed by Jordan Ashby.

Both bands will perform at the WTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment on Thursday, March 12. The Scotts Hill High School Band will perform at 10:40 a.m., followed by the Scotts Hill Elementary School Band at 12:00 p.m., and the Lexington High School Band at 2:00 p.m.

Henderson County Schools wishes these talented musicians the best of luck as they represent their schools at the upcoming assessment.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, to listen, and to grow together. At each of our Henderson County Schools, we remain committed to ensuring every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to make a difference.

From Danny J Beecham, Director of Schools:

As National School Counselor Week comes to a close, I want to publicly thank our school counselors across Henderson County Schools for the very important role they play in our students' lives. They serve as trusted listeners, advocates, academic and career guides, and steady sources of encouragement for children and families navigating real challenges.

Much of their work happens quietly and behind the scenes, yet its impact is profound and lasting. I love our counselors. I worked for over 20 years as a school counselor before becoming Director of Schools. I know firsthand their work matters.

On behalf of our Board of Education and our entire district, please know how deeply appreciated you are. Henderson County Schools is stronger because of your commitment to our students. Thank you for the difference you make every day.

Henderson County Schools Closure and Academic Calendar Update

Henderson County Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 5 due to current road conditions.

On Friday, February 6, faculty and staff will participate in staff development activities, only if they are able to safely travel to their school (with virtual options if not able to safely travel). There will be no students in attendance on Friday, February 6.

Schools will reopen on Monday, February 9, and we will return to a full week (Monday - Friday) of school for students beginning that day.

(Please note: this is a modification to the district academic calendar. The original calendar listed staff development and parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, February 12 and Friday, February 13. Those dates will now be regular instructional days for students.)

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we make adjustments to keep everyone safe while minimizing disruptions to learning. Please continue to watch for updates from the district.

From: Director of Schools Subject: School Closure Wednesday, February 4, 2026 Henderson County Schools will not be in session tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4th. While we are hopeful that weather and road conditions will continue to improve throughout the day, there remains too much uncertainty at this time to safely resume normal school operations. Several roads and streets across the district remain hazardous, and we are unable to ensure safe operation of our bus routes or a consistent start to the school day. The decision to close school is not made lightly. Student and staff safety remains our highest priority, and given the current conditions, proceeding with a regular school day would involve unnecessary risk. We will continue to closely monitor conditions and work with local officials as we plan for a safe return. We sincerely miss having our students in our buildings and classrooms, and we look forward to welcoming them back as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you to our families and staff for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we navigate these circumstances together. Danny J Beecham

RE: School Closure

Henderson County Schools will remain closed on Monday, February 2nd, and Tuesday, February 3rd. While conditions across the district are gradually improving, they have not yet reached a level that allows the safe resumption of normal school operations. In addition, our area will be under a Severe Weather Advisory this weekend due to dangerously cold wind chills, which are expected to refreeze roadways and walking surfaces.

We encourage all families and staff to continue exercising caution, limit travel when possible, and remain mindful of hazardous conditions that may persist. District personnel will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions and will evaluate our readiness to reopen schools as soon as it is safe to do so.

We truly miss having our students in our classrooms and cannot wait to welcome them back. As always, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support.
